Pet Shop Boys - Bilingually

History: Top History Links Albums Bottom
Pet Shop Boys was formed by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe in 1983.
Neil Tennant was at that time working as a reporter at the English pop magazine "Smash Hits", and Chris Lowe was studying to become an architect. They met for the first time in August 1981, in an electronics store when Neil Tennant went to buy some parts for his synthesizer. In the summer of 1983 they went to USA where they recorded "West End Girls" and "Opportunities". These songs were released as singles in the following year, but they became only small hits in USA and France, so they continued as reporter and student.
In 1985 they re-recorded the two songs with another producer and they now became big hits, especially "West End Girls" that became No. 1 in both England and USA. They released two more hit-singles and the album "Please" in 1986. The name "Please" was meant as a pun, you should go into the record store and say: "Can I have the Pet Shop Boys album please".
After "Please" they released the remix album "Disco" which had mixes of the four hit-singles from "Please" and two B-sides.
In 1987 they released the album "Actually" with four hit-singles. The name "Actually" was also meant as a pun, because they wrote "Not from the album actually" on the single "Always On My Mind", an Elvis Presley cover which was released in the same year.
In 1988 they released "Introspective" with remixes, for example of some of their singles and the song "I'm Not Scared" which they had written for the band Eighth Wonder.
In 1990 they released "Behaviour", for example with the singles "Being Boring", "So Hard" and "Jealousy".
